I stamp sustainably handmade on the bottom of every one of my pieces. Next to my signature. These stamps with signature are fired at close to 2100* F which makes the mark very permanent. Or pretty close. My assertion of sustainably made needs to be clarified. With this new blog, I intend to do just that in the coming weeks and months. Mondays or Tuesdays will be dedicated to Sustainable Studio, a column focused on making art for a living and making it environmentally more friendly.
Just think about this – mass media and mass production have left us with an environmental crisis and an economic meltdown. Small studio handmade or batch production in a networked marketing system (read – blogs, Twitter, Etsy, any and all online spreadable media) create a viable cash flow stream for an individual artist or small group. This is the model that Gandhi used in India to oust the British. He called it Swadeshi (without the techno part). It worked.
So, here’s a list to think about in the coming week-
1) Small is beautiful and really is the new big -
2) Consider what you make art. Raise the bar.
3) Everything is art and we are co-creating this reality. Take it seriously. What you do matters.
Steven “Ven” Vardin will be working on this column with me in the coming weeks. He is an accountant by trade, but a game changer by definition. Stay tuned for tips, inspiration and just maybe some much needed vision.

WOW!! Love this site and the very clean studio. It looks gergeous. Wish we could be there looking at all the seed vases.
From the Art Appreciation facilitater at PCAC* in Fairfield Glade TN. We appreciate what you tell us about art!! Yesterday we admitted art is an emotion, when we were trying to decide.what it is and what it isn’t.
