New MADRAS Serving Pieces
Inspired by the light colorful weaves of classic Madras fabric, porcelain artist Mary Anne Davis (davistudio.com) has launched a new line of serveware platters and bowls glazed in soft and vivid plaids.
“I was struck by how Madras fabric never really goes out of style,”
Davis says, remarking on the genesis of her new patterned designs.
“Every summer you find it worked into the latest fashion trends because it has perennial appeal. I wanted to bring this same attraction to the table.”
Using the unique bleeding quality of old world Madras fabric (before colorfastness) as a metaphor, Davis’s new horizontal and vertical patterned glazes are hand-painted in softly interwoven bands of color. This results in one-of-a-kind plaid designs that are deliberately irregular, consciously uncontrolled.
“At a certain point in the creative process, I surrender to the natural inclinations of my materials,” Davis states. “I think this is what gives my work its signature organic look.”
At davistudio, located in New York’s Hudson Valley, Davis is producing the new MADRAS line in three sizes of oval platters (15-, 11-, and 8-inch), two large round low bowls (16-, and 13-inch) as well as 12-inch chargers. The line is now having its retail debut at Avventura in New York City, where shoppers can also view davistudio’s existing line of porcelain dinnerware in solids and
confetti dots. All davistudio product lines are complimentary in color and style, allowing clients to mix-and-match items and create their own unique table settings. For more information, visit davistudio.com or call 518-392-7308
